Can we solve our problems while dreaming?
What do we really dream about? Much of our knowledge about dream content comes from 40 years of research based on a coding system for dreams (mostly from college students). The scientists found that although some dreams are bizarre, most are not. Most take place in familiar settings and often involve people we know.
One curious finding is that both men and women in equal parts populate women’s dreams while men’s dreams are more about men. My guess is that fear of competition is more at play here than secret desires. But it can be a fun fact to keep up one’s sleeve for later use in a heated discussion with men. It would be interesting to hear their theories on why.
Surprisingly, most dreams involve negative content or negative emotions. Almost 50 percent contain aggressive acts and a third involve some type of misfortune. Maybe it is a good thing that we tend to forget most of the dreams before we wake up?

A hurricane named Irene swept over the tiny island I live on; Great Guana Cay on August 25th, 2011. As usual when a hurricane warning is issued, humans prepare. They put hurricane shutters on their windows and make sure they have enough food and water to wait it out for a few days, even if power doesn’t come back. Many gather with friends and family to ride the storm off.
On our little island we have some wild chickens, hens and roosters running around. That’s about the only wild life we have, except from the lizards and a couple of rats. One should think that Mother Nature has equipped hen mothers with the instinct to find shelter for herself and her chicken when a hurricane is coming down, but that does not seem to be the case.

Leave a commentAre you walking around with your Umbilical Cord in your hand?
I heard this interesting expression the other day. It might have come from Dan Kennedy – or someone else (I’d love to know from whom):
“Some people are walking around with their umbilical cord in their hands, looking for somewhere to plug in.”
When I heard this for the first time I vividly saw it in my mind’s eye. At first I thought it was funny. Then I started thinking: Wow! That is not funny, but sad!
If you stood in front of an audience and asked: “How many of you are walking around with your umbilical cord in your hand? I bet you there would be no hands in the air. Admitting to being totally dependent on someone is probably as easy as admitting you’re an alcoholic. I imagine there are a lot of stages you have to go through before you own up to it.
Dependent Personality Disorder
So I hopped over to Wikipedia to research. Did you know that there is actually a personality disorder called “Dependent Personality Disorder”? It is characterized by a pervasive psychological dependence of other people, emotionally and physically. The disorder is often a long-term condition and is not easy to get rid of. Here’s what I learned:

Do you believe in parallel universes? For the sake of discussion, let’s imagine that there are parallel universes. During this thought experiment let’s say there are two universes that concern you.
There’s the one you live in now, This Reality — your life as you know it, this very moment. And then let’s imagine that there is a parallel universe. We can call it “The Other Reality”. Your ideal self exist in this Other Reality. Your mission in this experiment and eventually in your life (if you want to), is to bring the elements from your Other Reality into This Reality. How exciting is that?

Journaling is a wonderful therapeutic tool! You will see that for yourself after you have read the 13 reasons I am about to give you. Start writing a journal if you haven’t already incorporated it in your daily routines. It’s almost better than meditation!
Getting started doesn’t take much: Dedicate a journal specifically for the purpose. Find one you love, with a design that makes you smile. Or grab a notepad that’s been laying around for years — it’s what you’ll fill the pages with over the coming months that matters most. Name it, too: Why not call it “My Life Journal”?
When you sit down with yourself to write you have to start thinking. If you are like most people, thinking about your life may not be on top of your busy agenda each day. But there are reasons you should give it high priority and I will attempt to give you a few. You know how the days tend to slide by one by one, and before you know it you are heading somewhere you really didn’t want to end up. And who wants that?
When you invest some time into sitting down thinking and writing, you will relax and take deep breaths. Soon you will find yourself digging deeper into areas of your subconscious than you normally do. The result when the process is over? Your mind will get clearer and your worries will be under control.
